Outdoor Advertising
Outdoor advertising law is a specialized area of practice, which requires knowledge of federal, state and local laws and ordinances. FutureLaw represents the Outdoor Advertising Association of Virginia and helps write the laws in the Virginia General Assembly, affecting the regulation of billboards by the Virginia Department of Transportation ("VDOT"), and local governments. FutureLaw also represents many of the billboard companies doing business in Virginia. In this regard, we represent our clients in the permitting processes at the state and local levels; help secure their landowner relationships; handle zoning issues and rewrite local zoning ordinances throughout the Commonwealth; handle administrative appeals through VDOT; and provide a full range of other services to our billboard company clients. We routinely work with sign ordinance issues in localities throughout Virginia. Jim Barrett was formerly in charge of VDOT's outdoor advertising program and brings more than 40 years experience and institutional knowledge to FutureLaw's representation of outdoor advertising companies. Jim also has long standing relationships with the Federal Highway Administration, which is invaluable when our clients have issues involving the Federal Highway Beautification Act.
