Landlord Property Management
The FutureLaw team brings a wealth of expertise to the area of Landlord Property Management representation. Chip Dicks has been involved in drafting landlord-tenant legislation in Virginia for more than 25 years. Barrie Bowers, Jerry Booth, and Chip Dicks are editors of the "Virginia Redbook," a comprehensive resource handbook for the property management professional which includes relevant statutes and a detailed commentary by the editors. When dealing with residential landlord issues, FutureLaw uses a unique approach in creating a "legal procedures manual" for use by on-site managers, coupled with the option of a training seminar. The manual includes instructions and forms to assist the clients in everyday legal situations. In addition, FutureLaw has specialized modules for specific areas, including risk mitigation in the areas of mold, lead-based paint and premises liability. The FutureLaw approach is simple: provide the on-site managers with the tools and training they need along with phone or e-mail consultation to support the systems we help clients put in place. We also have the ability to provide in-court legal representation when needed, either in-house or through teaming relationships with other law firms, depending on the circumstances of a particular case. FutureLaw routinely revises client lease forms, updating the lease and other documents with the latest in new legislation. We regularly represent clients before the Virginia Real Estate Board and Fair Housing Board, defending real estate professionals on licensing and fair housing complaints. In addition, to help avoid potential legal issues before they arise, FutureLaw has a protocol for conducting an audit of a client’s policies and procedures to ensure they comply with the applicable real estate regulations. We believe that establishing strong policies, procedures and forms at the outset is the best way to avoid legal problems down the road. However, should questions or problems arise, our attorneys are also available to provide advice and help you address the issue, all the way from the initial consultation, up to and including seeing a matter through litigation should that become necessary.
