Futurelaw - Public and Government Affairs

Any business owner will attest that creating a business, opening its doors, and ultimately making revenue can be a daunting experience.  The FutureLaw Economic Development and Business Services Team facilitates this process for small, medium and large businesses to help meet your business goals and objectives.  We are a “B2G” service provider; that is, we help  a business to get what it needs from government, creating win-win solutions for the private and public sectors. Here are a few examples:

Often, a business needs approvals from local government in order to locate in their jurisdiction.  A business also may require state assistance with commercial access for the site or economic development assistance in the form of grants or workforce training.  We can help with these processes.

At times, a business needs information and access tofinancial assistance that requires creative approaches, including tax-exempt financing.  Whether working through an Industrial or Economic Development Authority or with a private lender, our Team knows how to pull the financing together.

Many Virginia companies are engaged in exporting or importing as another facet of their business operations.  FutureLaw’s team has a strong presence in Hampton Roads, where the Port of Virginia, one of the nation’s largest ports, is located. We have a teaming relationship with Maritime Cargo Services, LTD, which helps businesses comply with the myriad of federal and international cargo movement laws and regulations. As a result, FutureLaw can enable our clients to efficiently outsource all aspects of importing, exporting and maritime trading.

Your company may benefit from the new “Federal Stimulus” package, for which the federal government has committed $800 billion in new dollars to reinvigorate the economy through new projects.  It is also expected to create 3.5 million jobs.  This complex set of laws and regulations includes billions of dollars in discretionary and mandatory spending.

Federal Stimulus funds that could be available to your company include programs for economic development, job creation, loans for small business and renewable energy and energy conservation.   Some funds are distributed to states, localities and other entities through a combination of direct assistance and competitive grants.  The FutureLaw Economic Development and Business Services Team is well suited to help you navigate both the federal and state systems to assess if your business is eligible to participate in these new programs.

Whether your business is starting up or expanding into new arenas, we are ready to apply our extensive experience and substantial expertise to helping you attain the success you envision for your company.

Members of our Economic Development and Business Services Team include Susan Gaston, Martin Johnson, Roger Bowers and Chip Dicks. Susan Gaston coordinates the  Team.  Contact the FutureLaw Economic Development and Business Services Team to explore how we can help.
